Leaving Fes, we travel through lush, green landscapes that look more like Europe than the desert regions of Morocco. Our first major stop is in Ifrane, famously known as “Morocco’s Switzerland” for its alpine-style houses, clean streets, and cool climate. In winter, the town is blanketed in snow, enhancing its European charm. Surprisingly, cows are a common sight here, unlike the camels usually associated with Morocco.

These monkeys have migrated as far as Gibraltar, and while feeding is allowed, caution is advised to respect their natural habitat.

We then cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping for snacks and short breaks at panoramic viewpoints offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding valleys. The scenic drive is filled with lush vegetation, rugged mountain landscapes, and fresh mountain air.

Descending on the other side of the mountains, we arrive at Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossil workshops and as the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
